Description:
Tiger Broadcast, provides students with the opportunity to produce the school news show that is aired through DVD’s and online to the student body during advisory. Students will be introduced to the methods and mechanics of operating video equipment. Students will complete projects while performing the duties of anchor, director, editor, photographer, and reporter. Students should also possess a strong interest in broadcast journalism and reporting. Students will receive academic credit because the news show is produced during an assigned class time. Students will be required to attend work sessions outside of class to complete their assignments and responsibilities.

Description:
Forensics is an academic activity that engages students in argumentative competition. The Tiger Forensics Team generally competes in the following events: Policy Debate, Public Forum Debate, Value Debate, Original Oratory Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, Student Congress, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Prose/Poetry Reading..
Students are required to attend a minimum of two tournaments each semester (most attend more). The Tiger Forensics Program is also a charter member of the National Forensics League, giving students an opportunity to reap the benefits of a national honor society. This allows a student an opportunity to qualify for a national tournament, receive special awards and honors, and to wear honor cords at graduation.

Description:
The Missouri Scholars Academy is a three-week academic program for 330
of Missouri's gifted students who are ready to begin their junior year in high school. The
Academy is a residential program held on the campus of the University of MissouriColumbia.
The Academy reflects Missouri's desire to strive for excellence in education at all levels.
The program is based on the premise that Missouri's gifted youth must be provided with
special opportunities for learning and personal development in order for them to realize
their full potential.
With a carefully selected faculty and staff, a specially designed curriculum that focuses
on the liberal arts, and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities, the academy
enables students to be part of a unique learning community. The Academy provides a

They are also required to complete 3 service projects during their
membership. The time commitment for the service projects varies
by project. If a student misses one meeting, he or she will need to do an additional service

projects. After three missed meetings, the faculty committee will evaluate the member’s
dedication to NHS. If we find it lacking, you will be dismissed from NHS. NHS lasts all school year.

During the 2nd semester of the junior year, students who are interested in joining NHS will be
asked to fill out a petition and obtain a letter of recommendation from an adult outside of the R-7
school district. Only juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 will be given a petition for
membership. Students who qualify for membership the fall of their senior year will also be given
an opportunity to join using the same process.

Do you like playing games? Then there is a club just for you! The Organization of Strategic Gamers (OSG) meets to engage students in the hobby of Historical, Sci-fi/Fantasy board games, RPGs, CCGs, console gaming and miniature gaming. Members participate in after school gaming activities and larger local gaming conventions. After school activities focus on games and related activities that can be completed in a 2-hour time span, such as board games, CCG's and painting miniature clinics. Weekend activities are open to the invited public and provide gaming activity opportunities that need a longer time period to complete. Our hobby is centered on the principles of gaming and sportsmanship; therefore, members of the OSG are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times.

Poetry Club participates in a variety of poetry activities throughtout the year. These include reading, writing, and exploring poetry; helping plan and prepare the annual library poetry coffeehouse; and promoting National Poetry Month. There are also opportunities to complete in writing contests and to participate in performance poetry competitions such as Louder than a Bomb KC and Poetry Out Loud.

Description:
The Air Force Junior ROTC Program provides the opportunity for students to study and apply leadership, develop self-reliance and self-discipline,
understand basic values and the elements of character, and participate in a wide range of exciting learning environments. Absolutely no military obligation
is incurred as a result of enrollment in the program and expenses are paid by the U.S. Government. Students are required to wear the Air Force uniform one day
per week and meet the Air Force grooming standards (uniform supplied and tailored free of charge). By completing two or three years of the four-year AFJROTC program,
students can compete for a JROTC scholarship to college and may be eligible to enter the military at a higher pay grade.
Students may participate in field trips, dances, awareness presentations, and the following special activities through AFJROTC:
Drill Team, Honor Guard, Kitty Hawk Air Society, Leadership & Academic Team, Model Rocket Club, & Raiders Athletic Team

Description:
FIRST is a national non-profit organization that holds an annual competition for high school students. The competition challenges students to build a machine to accomplish a task that changes every year. Awards are given for competition performance, business plan, outreach activities, animation, engineering drawings, robot design and entrepreneurship. Regional competitions are held in March and the National competition is held in April.
Team Driven is a FIRST Robotics Competition team based out of Lee's Summit High School. Just as the team is "Driven to Succeed," the team members are driven to learn, exploring the unique opportunities offered by FIRST Robotics to not only further their knowledge of motors, gear ratios and pneumatics, but also to challenge themselves with logistics, communications, CAD modeling, 3-D animation, web design, and other areas of the FIRST experience.

Description:
Scholar Bowl is a fun trivia competition. Teams consist of four students who answer questions about different academic subjects as well as pop culture, sports, and other miscellaneous trivia. It is fun, not scary. "If you don't know, you don't buzz in." No pressure. Scholar Bowl is a MSHSAA event which means you can earn a Varsity Letter!

As a theatre club, Tiger Act members do various theatrical activities as a group. The club members go to support other high school theatre shows as well as attend various professional productions. Selected members will also attend the State Thespian festival and International Thespian Festival each year. Every year, Tiger Act hosts a lock in and other extra curricular activities. This is a great way to get involved in various theatrical production crews as well.

Tiger Smart is an organization that focuses on community intervention and support. Members contribute time to raising money and resources for community organizations. Tiger Smart focuses on developing character traits in individuals which promotes a drug, alcohol, tobacco, and violence free community.
Tiger Smart has three focal points: supporting students choosing to live an ATOD free lifestyle; providing events which promote an ATOD lifestyle; and delivering education on character development and the effects of ATOD. Tiger Smart focuses on giving students alternate activities that support the school and community.
